Kindred Coffee
My Senior Thesis Project
RESEARCH & PROCESS
My passion for design and love for coffee culminated into my Senior Thesis project: Kindred Coffee. Committed to eco-education and environmental activism, Kindred Coffee gave me the opportunity to expand upon my interest in sustainably sourced materials, packaging possibilities, and Graphic Design’s power to inspire. Below is a walkthrough of my research process, sketching, prototyping, and design decisions I made through the creation of my Senior Thesis.
DESIGN
My competitive research, demographic survey, and mentor advice informed the first round of logo design concepts. In five rounds, starting with 50 thumbnail sketches, I narrowed down the look and feel of the brand through peer critique and eliminated ones that didn’t resonate with my target audience. After countless tweakments the final logo was chosen and informed the rest of my brand’s unique visual identity. Inspired by retro character design and bold color palettes that reference the vibrant colors of the Amazonian Rainforest. After finalizing the mycelium packaging, coffee origins zine, website, social media pages, and merchandise; Kindred Coffee is ready to be seen!
THE PURPOSE
Kindred Coffee was created to combat environmental, economic, and social change that threatens the future of coffee. Coffee lovers should not have to choose between their favorite part of the day and the sustainability crisis the fruit faces in the near future.
That’s why Kindred Coffee is committed to uplifting farmers and coffee lovers alike through an unique approach to coffee consumption, education, and giving back to the communities that nurture it’s harvest. At Kindred Coffee, we love coffee (duh!) and believe in it’s awesome ability to bring people together.
